Golden Retriever is the second most popular breed of dogs in U.S. As the name suggests they are mainly golden in color. They may also come in a variety of other shades of golden.
They are intelligent, lovable and very loyal. They have the ability to please others. They have a friendly nature and can entertain even the other dogs. Golden Retriever has very little guarding instincts. They do not attack but prove to be good watchdogs. They efficiently signal a strangers approach. Golden Retrievers are also safe with children. They are useful in illegal drug detection, search and rescue.
They are obedient and so can be trained easily. Like any other puppy, Golden Retriever puppies have a habit to chew anything they get. So the first thing you need to teach your puppy is to stop chewing. While they are teething, you can provide them with chew toys. There is another alternative to this. Fill an old sock with some ice cubes, tie a knot to it and place it in the freezer. When your dog needs to chew something give him this sock and keep a watch on him so that he does not swallow it.
You should develop a daily routine for training your Golden Retriever. Specify a definite place to provide him with his meals. This will make the dog understand where he has to go when he is hungry. You should regularize his eating habits by giving him his lunch, evening snack and dinner at same time every day. His sleeping place should also be fixed so that he gets used to it. He should be trained to know what time he should sleep and get up.
There should be fixed time of his walks and going to the bathroom. You can easily teach words with phonetic sounds to your Golden Retriever. The commands said in this tone are easily grasped by them. Slowly and steadily you can increase the commands and train your dog to be a perfect pet.
